Description:

This is a front office position in the Political Science & Criminal Justice department.The Office Assistant provides essential support by handling front desk operations, customer service, and administrative tasks within the department. This role focuses on assisting students, faculty, staff, and the general public through phone, email, and in-person interactions

This position will start Fall semester of 2026 and will continue into Spring 2027 (with the potential for time in the Summer as needed).

Responsibilities:

  • Clerical support to all Political Science & Criminal Justice faculty/staff members.
  • Greeting visitors and students to the department.
  • Directing questions from students to the appropriate faculty member.
  • Answering phones/taking messages/responding to email.
  • Responding to general questions about the department (in person, over the phone, or by email).
  • Making copies.
  • Maintaining the copier - refill paper & replace toner cartridges, arrange service calls as needed, etc.
  • Restocking the supply room - maintain updated inventory and inform admin when supplies need reordered.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized office space (reception, copy room, conference room).
  • Facilitating office tech support - arrange for IT assistance, phone assistance, equipment maintenance and service calls as needed.
  • Assist professors and the office administrator in various tasks or projects as assigned.

Duties may also include opening or closing the office, depending on the assigned schedule.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Google docs knowledge is a must.
  • Proficient with Excel Spreadsheets/Google Sheets.
  • Ability to prioritize various tasks.
  • Must be dependable and show up to shifts on time.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be organized and a self-starter.
  • Willingness to learn.

Your Fall 2026 Schedule must be provided upon application.
